The Caribbean islands have long been a preferred vacation destination. But with the boom in the tourist trade, many of them have become over commercialized and have lost their natural charm – everything seems to be artificially created to lure the tourist. Luckily, this malaise does not extend to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. These islands, which form their own republic, are blessed with natural resources that mean they are not completely dependant on tourism for their survival. This has allowed them to control the growth of tourism and ensure that the natural charm and beauty of the islands has not been lost. At the same time tourism is an important industry and tourists are made welcome.
Experience the real Caribbean
Of the two islands, Tobago has more to offer the vacationer. It is only 5 hours from New York and flights to Tobago are plentiful and cheap. Visitors who come to Tobago and miss out on the “real” Caribbean experience by isolating themselves in the kind of hotels that are to be found everywhere on the planet are missing out on the best part of the vacation. That does not mean that they need to stay in a thatched roof shack on the beach. Those who stay at Half Moon Blue, a luxury resort on Tobago, are sure of getting the real feel of the island while enjoying all the comforts of a top class resort hotel. This exotic hotel, set near scenic Bacolet Bay, offers everything a modern traveler could want along with the feel of being in the Caribbean and not living in a faceless hotel in a faceless part of the world.

When going on a vacation to the exotic Caribbean, this is the kind of choice one may have to make. In some cases it is a literal choice between the two options and in others it is more symbolic. The thing is that the Caribbean has become very much of a tourist centric region, where the traditional allures of the islands are being lost to modern “amenities”. The only exception to this is the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and in particular the island of Tobago. These islands have rich natural resources and while tourism is an important provider of jobs, the economy is not solely dependant on tourism. This means the people of Trinidad and Tobago are able to retain the natural charm of their islands while at the same time ensuring that the Tobago tourism industry is professionally run and caters to the demands of the modern holiday maker.
Stay in paradise
One Tobago hotel that offers the best of both worlds is Half Moon Blue. Set in a garden of bamboo and bougainvillea and located at the base of a hill topped by Historic for George, it exudes the allure the charm of the Caribbean. Being on the shores of beautiful Bacolet Bay means that there are pristine beaches just a few minutes walk from the rooms. And oh yes, there is an overflow swimming pool too!
